HP Pavilion Build Quality

The Elite e9150t is superbly built with a case of all metal construction and a nice gloss black fascia. Most of the fronts ports and optical bays are as is the trend these days hidden away behind neat little doors and on the top of the machine is a great docking and charging station with built in cable routing to the back of the machine so that you can hold your phone, iPod, or an external portable drive.

It’s rather like the place on your dashboard in the car, a place to put something while its not in use or charging or even downloading, but handy to reach for when you need it. Great idea HP.

Inputs and Expansion

HP have built a huge amount of expandability in to the Pavilion e9150t. You have two optical drive bays with Blu-ray/DVD burner combo drive option and a 15-in-1 card reader. The card reader incorporates an IR receiver.

If your an fan of HP’s Pocket Media Drives then you will find a drive bay for your unit on the e9150t, The Pocket Media Drives run off of USB and are great for a quick download and drop in the pocket or bag. We love them.

Further down the case you will also find a slot for the HP Personal Media Drive which is a full size portable storage and backup device.

Again this connects via USB when you slide it into the bay and has its own power connector built into the back. With a 500 GB or 1TB option, two of these and you have the perfect off site backup solution if you rotate them every 3 to 5 days depending on your level of back up paranoia!

You get the usual USB2.0 ports x 2, analog audio in and out as well as a FireWire port on the front of the system nicely hidden behind a port door.

The rear of the e9150t features four more USB2.0 ports, a further FireWire port, and an analog audio in and analog 7.1 audio out, together with a Gigabit Ethernet jack, two eSATA ports and optical audio out. The e9150t also features 802.11n wireless built in so you can connect directly to your wireless router.

Everything is neatly labelled with the labels reading upside down so that when you tip the computer forward from the front you can see exactly what your connecting to. Another thoughtful touch from HP. It’s the little things like this that let you know that this machine has been so well thought out.

So how does it run? Well like the proverbial demon. The Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHz processor makes this baby really hum and you will not have any challenges running most anything you want. Number crunching, video and photo editing and whilst it hasn’t been built as a gaming machine, with all this power, it does a pretty good job.

You’re not going to notice the HP Pavilion Elite e9150t struggling with very much that you can throw at it.

With Intel’s Turbo Mode turned on and Windows on its highest performance settings, then the CPU will run at 2.79GHz so there is plenty of power to spare.

Specifications include an Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.66GHz Processor, up to 6GB DDR3 RAM, Hard Drives up to 1TB in Raid, Blu-ray Read/Write Optical Drive, Integrated 7.1 audio and the option of ATI Radeon HD4850 1GB Graphics. And of course Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n Wireless and it all runs on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

So should you buy the Elite e9150t? Well, there are plenty of features here that you won’t find elsewhere. It’s fast, the Graphics are excellent and we love the Media Bay options. Tie that in with the BluRay, built in Wireless and Intel’s latest technology and your pretty future proofed for a good while.
